Too cold — hypothermia

Call 999 if you think they have hypothermia.

Get them out of the cold and into shelter, or block the wind.

Gently swap wet clothes for dry ones.

Wrap them up in dry blankets, a sleeping bag or towels, including their head. Put something between them and the cold ground.

If they're fully awake, give them a warm, non-alcoholic drink and something sugary to eat.

Stay with them, and keep them talking until help arrives.

Don't

Signs of hypothermia

Shivering; pale, cold, dry skin; slurred speech; slow breathing; tiredness or confusion. In babies: cold to touch, floppy, and unusually quiet or sleepy.
